A small private syndicate

Membership

Romaldkirk Anglers is deliberately small. Membership is limited to 25 anglers and vacancies therefore arise only occasionally.

The character of the syndicate

A friendly group with a shared respect for the water

We are fortunate to have a close-knit and friendly membership. The syndicate is not run as a commercial fishery; it exists so that a small number of anglers can enjoy and help care for a very special stretch of the River Tees.

Members value the privacy and tranquillity of the beat, respect the landowner's wishes and agreed access arrangements, and understand that the surrounding ancient woodland and river corridor must remain as natural as possible.

Day-to-day communication is through the members' WhatsApp group, where anglers normally announce an intention to fish as a courtesy and safety measure and share their catches and observations.

What membership means

More than simply a place to fish

The syndicate works because members share the same straightforward approach to the river and to one another.

Respect the water

The beat lies within a Site of Special Scientific Interest and ancient woodland. Members are expected to fish and move around it with care and without altering its natural character.

Respect the privacy

There are no public footpaths through the fishing. Access routes and detailed beat information are supplied privately to members and should not be shared with others.

Look out for one another

The Tees deserves respect. Members keep one another informed through WhatsApp, take sensible precautions and follow the syndicate's safety guidance when fishing.

Enjoy it lightly

The water is deliberately lightly fished. Members generally return their catches voluntarily and value the quality of the experience as much as the number of fish caught.

Vacancies arise from time to time

Because membership is capped at 25, we cannot always offer a place immediately. Prospective members are welcome to make an enquiry and, when a vacancy is available, the syndicate will explain the next steps.

  1. 1
    Make an enquiry

Tell us a little about yourself and your fishing.

  2. 2
    We will confirm availability

If the syndicate is full, we can let you know the current position.

  3. 3
    Introduction to the water

When appropriate, a prospective member can be introduced to the beat and its particular access and safety arrangements. A guided tour of the beat can sometimes be arranged for new members.
